Brandon van der Kolk is a popular financial YouTuber with an estimated net worth of AUD $ 800,000. He currently runs an investment YouTube channel called âNew Moneyâ. Originally it was known as “Aussie Wealth Creation” but was renamed to attract a wider audience outside of Australia.
The young Australian has built a huge online success and has multiple sources of income that earn him around $ 30,000 per month. Not too bad!
How he earns money
Its main source of income is YouTube ad revenue as personal finance has high CPM and is very advertiser friendly. Its revenue per thousand views would be considerably higher than a real crime or prank chain with less commercial appeal. Typically, he earns $ 10,000 per month with YouTube AdSense. Despite the impressive gains, his success did not happen overnight and it took about three years to start making this type of money.
In January 2020, Brandon launched Profitful.online – he sells beginner investing and tax courses. Currently he has four courses – two of them he created and the other two are in partnership with Scott Ellis. The courses sell for between $ 49 and $ 199 AUD, which is reasonably priced. A lot of information could probably be found online for free but would not be organized and well presented. Thanks to Profitful Brandon earns $ 10,000 to $ 15,000 AUD per month! The course sales business is huge and the profit margins are huge due to the low overheads.
Affiliate marketing is his third biggest source of income. In the past, he has promoted Stake, Sharesight, and Finder to viewers. To be fair he is not overly promotional with referrals and is selective about who he advertises unlike others in the investment niche.
Before starting his entrepreneurial journey, Brandon was a trained physiotherapist and realized that physiotherapists didn’t make a lot of money. Because of this, he was always looking for a side business to earn some extra dough. In 2017, he published an eBook on Amazon called “The Beginner Physiotherapy”, which doesn’t appear to have sold many copies.
In 2016/2017 it started on YouTube and the content initially targeted Australians. The first videos around sports betting, stock trading and personal finance allowed him to attract a loyal following. In 2020, it was rebranded as “New Money” and posted videos covering Warren Buffet, Elon Musk, Ray Dalio, Michael Burry and general market news. Now it is at 400,000 subscribers and absolutely exceeds it.
Brandon also has a podcast with Hamish Hodder known as the âYoung Investors Podcastâ. Both are young, knowledgeable guys who discuss investment news and have light jokes.
Because Brandon is heavily followed, followers want to know what stocks he’s buying. Unfortunately, he doesn’t publicly reveal his portfolio, but does talk about his favorite investment strategies. About 30% of his wealth is invested – he holds 20% in ETFs and the rest in individual companies.
