Youth
Stevin John is Blippi’s real name. The man was born on May 27, 1988. His birthplace is in Las Vegas, but he grew up in Ellensburg, Washington. He was raised in a farming community.
As a child, he never planned to be a performer or an educator. His childhood dream was to be a limousine driver and fighter pilot. He managed to fulfill one of these wishes after graduating from high school when he left to join the military.
John was a loadmaster on the C-17 Globemaster aircraft of the 4th Airlift Squadron while on active duty in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed his stay there. He didn’t like the idea of having a family in the future and then being separated from them for months.
Steezy Grossmann
Blippi is not the first character portrayed by Stevin. After his military service, John spent time in Los Angeles, where he worked on commercials and created web videos under the name Steezy Grossman.
His initial ideas were far from what he is known for creating today. Steezy was a youngster who was born as feces as a result of anal sex between his parents.
As Steezy Grossman, he uploaded videos that are obviously not suitable for children. However, John admitted that at the time he was just tasteless and stupid.
Be Blippi
John came up with the idea for Blippi after returning to Ellensburg and seeing his then two-year-old nephew watching low-quality YouTube content for young children. On January 27, 2014, Blippi’s first video was released, with John handling all filming, production and visuals.
Her classic orange and blue beret and bow tie were made by her mother. The videos would go on to garner a massive following, with over a billion views on YouTube and a growing production team.
Although children have embraced his playful disposition, some adults have questioned the nature of the character, particularly regarding his tone and repetitive music. Still, his YouTube channel managed to gain 15 million subscribers today.
Sources of income
Its main channel generates about $9 million a year from ads. But this is not his only source of income. As the Blippi team grew, they also started making foreign language films and uploading them to their new channels.
